Project "50 splendid sites along the Danube” BG2005/017-455.01.03.01.02

Beneficiary: Vidin Chamber of Commerce and Industry

The project "50 splendid sites along the Danube” is a innovative project based in the NW planning region of Bulgaria and neighbouring Romanian regions developing the field of eco and cultural tourism aiming at the raising of the local potential and strengthening of key actors – companies, tour-agents, NGOs, chambers of commerce and municipalities.

It is considered that those types of tourism hold the most perspective opportunities thus their development is crucial for the local tourism economy in general. The project includes the preparation and distribution of a resource package “50 splendid sites along the Danube” in digital, printed and web-site version, preparation and carrying of two specialized training course in cultural and eco tourism, press-conference and others.

The project will be implemented by a strong coalition of 6 partners – 3 Romanian (Mehedinti Chamber of commerce, industry and agriculture , Oltenia” Chamber of commerce and industry – Dolj county , Chamber of commerce, industry and agriculture Olt county ) and 3 Bulgarian Chambers of commerce and industry (Vidin Chamber of commerce and industry, Vratza Chamber of commerce and industry, Montana Chamber of commerce and industry). 

Project objectives are:

Overall objective:

  • To establish sustainable cooperation in the field of tourism along the Danube stimulating the joint tourist flow; 

Specific objectives:

  • To exchange best practices in the field of tourism amongst key actors in the border area;
  • To raise the capacity of key actors and NGOs and local authorities related to tourism activities;
  • To stimulate the development of cultural and eco tourism as most perspective alongside the Danube river; 

Expected results are: 

  • Resource package “50 splendid sites along the Danube” – containing information about 25 sites in Bulgaria and 25 sites in Romania of which 25 eco and 25 cultural heritage sites;
  • Interactive digital map of the project region with the 50 sites included and providing various tourist information;
  • Printed booklet “50 splendid sites along the Danube” – 500 copies;
  • Printed map “50 splendid sites along the Danube” – 500 copies;
  • Training course “Eco tourism” for 30 participants carried out;
  • Training course “Cultural tourism” for 30 participants carried out;
  • Press-conference carried out;
  • Web-site “50 splendid sites along the Danube” created.
