Today, observers consider there is a deep lack of integration of people with disabilities within the Bulgarian society as within the workforce.
This is probably caused by multiple factors among which insufficient information about the benefits that people with
disabilities can provide to potential employers and to society at large, inappropriate pathways towards employers, lack of
knowledge of the regulation on disability in place.

Therefore, under the initiative of Ms. Mariela Velichkova BAEVA Member of the European Parliament, a conference on the integration of people with disabilities in Bulgaria is organised on the 18th of March 2008 in Sofia to give clear guidance on this crucial issue, share practices from the business perspective in terms of employment, accessibility and new technology.
The aim of this conference is to raise awareness of the important opportunity that people with disabilities represent for society and employment at large, especially in Bulgaria where increasing skills shortages occur.
Through concrete presentations of best practices from Bulgaria and from all around Europe, this conference will highlight
discussions on the role of regulation, of companies and the contribution that public and private intermediaries can provide in facilitating the integration of people with disabilities. The overall target of this conference is to find appropriate and concrete ideas and solutions to move forward and deeply change the current situation.
