EPP PRESIDENT SUPPORTS GERB TO LEAD NEXT BULGARIAN GOVERNMENT

EPP President, Wilfried Martens, met today the Mayor of Sofia and leader of GERB, Boyko Borisov, and GERB Chairman Tsvetan Tsvetanov, and expressed to them EPP's support for the upcoming European and national elections in Bulgaria, reported the EPP Bulgarian press service.

"In recent years, GERB has become the leading political force in Bulgaria. I am confident that GERB will also have the leading role in a future center-right government," Martens stated during his official visit to Bulgaria.

With regard to recent speculation about EPP's opinion on possible coalition partners in a future government, President Martens stated that "by definition, the EPP does not interfere with the domestic political processes of countries. Yet, from a European perspective, we do not support coalitions with extreme right or left political parties."

During his visit to Bulgaria, he will also meet with representatives of all the EPP member parties of the country.
