PARLIAMENT'S FOREIGN AFFAIRS GIVES ITS FINAL GREEN LIGHT TO BULGARIA'S AND ROMANIA'S ACCESSION

European Liberal Democrats welcome the constructive and positive tone of the two final parliamentary reports on the accession of Bulgaria and Romania. The reports were voted in the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Here is the content of an ALDE press-release on the matter:  

"The final reports of the European Parliament on Bulgaria and Romania represent the majority opinion in the House that the two countries are ready for EU membership" said Annemie Neyts, MEP (VLD, Belgium). "Naturally, there is still work ahead. I believe that through the monitoring in which the European Parliament will be fully involved, we can complete the reform process. I welcome the positive and objective tone of the reports which recognises the achievements of Bulgaria and Romania".

Romanian Observer Adrian Cioroianu, Leader of the PNL Delegation to the EP said after the vote of the Romania report in the Committee on Foreign Affairs "We welcome this final report and its overall positive evaluation. Yet another step has been concluded in the EU accession process. I also welcome the idea that a group of MEPs will visit Romania next year and finally evaluate, in an objective manner, the situation of children".

Bulgarian Observers welcomed the flexible approach to the closure of the third and fourth units of the Kozlodui nuclear power plant recommended by the Foreign Affairs committee. After the vote Bulgarian Observer Stanimir Ilchev (NMSII, Bulgaria) said "Realistic attitude to the Bulgarian nuclear sector requires to take into account not only the needs of the Bulgarian economy but also the worrying energy deficit in few of Bulgaria's neighbours. A flexible approach to the closure of Kozlodui's third and fourth units will be a good alternative to the unavoidable shock in the Balkan energy market".
