CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR BULGARIA, ROMANIA, AND SLOVAKIA MARCH 2006

Trust for Civil Society in Central & Eastern Europe (“CEE Trust”) is an independent public charity incorporated under the laws of the United States of America and governed by a Board of Trustees.  The CEE Trust promotes the development of civil societies in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.  The CEE Trust was conceived as a mechanism for facilitating the transition to independent, active and viable networks of organizations and citizens working for the public good.  To achieve this goal, the CEE Trust meets the urgent need for funding to help non﷓governmental organizations (NGOs) and other civil society stakeholders gain greater self-reliance and self-sufficiency.

On March 21, 2006 the CEE Trust has opened a new call for proposals in Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia and invites non-profit organizations, expert groups and institutions to work on:

1)    Enhancing the accountability, transparency, and effectiveness of public institutions;

2)    Strengthening civic support for democracy, promoting democracy of citizens and engaging other stakeholders;

3)    Supporting civil society as a voice for marginalized and vulnerable populations;

4)    Creating a better enabling environment for civil society.

Projects should cover in particular policy analysis, cross-sectoral cooperation, active campaign and advocacy in the eligible countries: Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia.  In year 2006 preferred projects should focus on the areas listed in the CEE Trust call for proposals.
