Discussion with Malcolm Harbour, MEP, on the Telecom package
Today an online discussion with MEP Malcolm Harbour (EEP - ED, Conservative Party, Great Britain) took place as part of the "Now - Interacting with the European Parliament" Initiative.
The Topic of the conversation was "Consumer Protection Online and Public Procurement in the EU".
The main topic of the discussion was protecting the freedom of internet users and the changes in the latest telecoms package.
Malcolm Harbour explained that the three strikes rule (in case of three breaches of copyright internet access should be banned) demanded by France, was not included in the package and is from the competences of the member states. In his view the issue of protection of personal space from the surveillance of the authorities has been disproportionately covered in comparison with its actual role in the package.
