SOFIA HOSTS “SPRING FOR EUROPE” CONFERENCE
In a greeting speech to the participants in the conference "Spring for Europe" Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov declared that Bulgaria was enough motivated to score clear-cut progress despite the challenges it is faced up with in the second year of its EU membership, Radio Bulgaria reported.
Parvanov pointed out that the measures taken in the field of the judiciary, domestic order and security would yield concrete results, underscoring at the same time that Bulgaria placed a big deal of reliance on its partnership with European institutions.
"The main expectations of the European citizens from the Lisbon Treaty are for more democracy, communication, clarity and transparency of the European institutions", Parvanov pointed out.
In his opinion Bulgaria was actively involved in the resolving of all key issues on the European agenda and played a major role in solving many of the current problems of the Balkans. The Bulgarian head of state also put a stress on the success Bulgaria achieved in connection with the Cyrillic alphabet spelling of the common European currency - the Euro.
