We need to immediately start preparation for restarting unit 3 of Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant in the context of Article 36 of the Treaty of Accession.

"In a situation of crisis like this we have the right to restore the work of both reactors." President Georgi Parvanov said, cited by Focus Agency.

According to the President the setting in operation of unit 3 can start immediately while putting unit 4 into operation requires longer preparation and can happen in a month's time.

"I sincerely hope that out European partners will sympathize with our situation and will not oppose to our request", Parvanov said.

"We are faced with a serious gas crisis in which Bulgaria is a victim of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine". That was the comment about the stopped gas supply from Russia via Ukraine to the Balkans made by Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev on a press conference in the Council of Ministers.

Government has informed EC about the new situation. The EC now carries out a mission in Kiev and Moscow and an EC meeting will be held about the gas issue on January 8th and 9th. Stanishev said that has requested for a telephone conversation with the prime ministers of Russia and Ukraine and added that he has invited the main importer of gas, the CEO of "Overgas" Sasho Donchev, to a meeting.

No prior notice was given to Bulgaria for the halt of the gas supplies, it just happened tonight", Stanishev explained.

The Prime Minister summoned an urgent meeting where it became clear that in the situation of a reduced supply of gas priority would have public establishments - hospitals, schools, kindergartens. Additional supply of oil residue can be provided by Neftohim in order for the central heating companies to continue working, the Prime Minister added.

Mоney.bg: 6 200 cubic meters were the total supplies to Bulgaria yesterday, 4.3 million cubic meters after 11 p.m., and the supply to the Balkan region was put on halt tonight. About 12 million cubic meters is the normal rate of consumption in the country. At the moment there are 570 million cubic meters available in Chiren at the maximum of 4.5 million cubic meters of daily production which equals to one third of the normal consumption rate, the Prime Minister said.
