GEORGE SOROS: THE FINANCIAL CRISIS WILL NOT AFFECT THE NGOS IN THE WESTERN BALKANS

The global financier and philanthropist, George Soros commented on the global financial crisis during the International conference Civil Society Development in Southeast Europe: Building Europe together in Brussels on April 17. He answered a question by the participants who wanted to know his opinion on whether the financial crisis could affect NGOs in the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe as a whole.

"I certainly do feel strongly that the whole world is facing a very serious financial crisis and it is probably the most serious financial crisis of our lifetime. And the financial system is severely disrupted. I really do not think that it will have serious effect on NGOs in your region. It will have more effect in America, because the donors are generally private individuals and they will give less money, if they earn less money. But hopefully I won't be too badly affected and I think that I will be in the least of my worries".
