Bulgaria has not submitted on time the report on renewable energy sources to the Commission

A letter from the European Commission has arrived in the Ministry of Economy and Energy (MEE) relating to the requirements of Directive 2001/77/ЕО for the promotion of electricity produced from renewable energy sources /RES/ in the internal electricity market and its consumption. The Directive requires that each Member State submits a report to the Commission not later than 27 October 2007 which shall include analysis of the results achieved in the process of realization of national goals, the government press center announced.

The letter points to the fact that the Commission has not received Bulgaria's report on the production and consumption of electricity from RES and sets a 2-month term for its submission, MEE announces.

Pursuant to Article 3, Paragraph 3 from Directive 2001/77/ЕС of the European Parliament and the European Council from 27 September 2001 for the promotion of electricity produced from RES in the internal electricity market, after 27 October 2003 each Member State should issue every two years a progress report on the implementation of the national indicative goals. This report must render a special account of the climate factors which may probably influence the achievement of these goals and to specify the extent to which the measures introduced correspond to the national obligations in respect of the climate change.

Bulgaria's report is ready and will be submitted to the Commission in 10 days accompanied by an explanation of the reasons for the delay. For the purpose of the report it is necessary to enhance the collection, processing and analysis of large data arrays relating to: available RES resources, alternative energy sources /AES/ and biofuels, available technical capacity, producers of energy from RES and AES and of biofuels, projects for utilization of RES, AES and biofuel production - initiated or already in the pipeline.

In order to provide precise, full and up-to-date information on the progress of the national indicative goals implementation, it was necessary to collect data for the production of electricity from RES. With the purpose of preparing such analysis as part of the report, it was necessary to have at hand all relevant data which was issued in March by the National Statistical Institute.
