Opinion: Lisbon Treaty rejection in Ireland: we all knew it in advance

Finally, we have received the long-awaited results of the Lisbon Treaty. In my opinion, and probably I share this opinion with many others, we all knew long in advance that the Reform Treaty would be rejected.

This is not because I and people of the same opinion knew that the Irish people would never accept the terms of the Treaty or believed that it was in Ireland's best interests to reject the treaty. No, it's much more simple than that, the treaty would be rejected because nobody would vote for a treaty they knew nothing about. It would be like signing a contract you didn't understand in the slightest, whether or not it was good or bad for you.

This is the opinion expressed by an Irish student, expressed specially for the initiative “Now – interacting with the European Parliament!” - this is Darren Kinsella (20), a student of European Studies at the Tallaght Institute of Technology Tallaght in Dublin.

The full text of his analysis is available HERE - on the specialized website within the "Now - interacting with the European Parliament!" initiative.
