Brussels expects Concrete Results from the Judicial Reform in Bulgaria
In the coming 4 to 5 months the European Commission looks forward to seeing concrete results from the reforms in judiciary and interior affairs. This was announced by Jonathan Faull, Director General of European Commission's Justice, Freedom and Security Directorate during his meeting with the Minister of Interior Mihail Mikov, Netinfo reported.
Faull clarified that by results officials Brussels means guilty verdicts. "There are no perfect laws or structures, results are what shows if things change" Jonathan Faull said. His visit is at the invitation of the Ministry of Interior and aims to set up for the visit of European Commissioner Jacques Barrot to Bulgaria next January.
Special attention in the discussions was paid to the cooperation between Prosecutor's Office, Court, Supreme Judicial Council and State Agency for National Security. Jonathan Faull took interest in the legal form for using special intelligence devices and in the amendments in the Criminal Procedure Code. "We are convinced that the present government team in Bulgaria is fully devoted to working towards eradicating the problems, noted by the last Report of the EC", Faull said and expressed his expectation that the current situation of special monitoring mechanism for Bulgaria which is disturbing both for Brussels and for Sofia would soon by tackled.
"We treat the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism positively", said Mikov in response, because this is useful first and foremost for Bulgaria and its citizens.
