Ministers Discuss Reports on EU Funds Management by the National Audit Office

The ministers who are in charge of operational programmes meet with Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Plugchieva to get introduced with the audit reports by the National Audit Office concerning the management and allocation of EU funds. There are two reports, both being quite critical - the first one is about the cohesion and structural funds and the other one - about the Common Agricultural Policy spending, the on-line edition of Sega Daily reported.

The ministers have 14 days to respond about the breaches and the remarks stated, Deputy Prime Minister Plugchieva explained. The draft reports were handed to her a couple of days ago by the Audit Office.

The check-up was commissioned to the National Audit Office by the Parliament. "This is an unprecedented audit as it concerns the whole current management system", the head of the office, Valeri Dimitrov explained to BNR yesterday.

The procedure foresees that after the ministers give explanations the reports will be adopted by the Audit Office and then submitted to the Parliament. It is only then that they become public.

In case of infringements National Audit Office has the right to submit its reports to the prosecutor's office.
