MEP Markus Ferber: Head of the German delegation (CSU) in the EPP Group: We support GERB in unfreezing the funds for SAPARD

Markus Ferber MEP congratulated the GERB leader Boyko Borissov on the landslide victory of GERB in last Sundays elections in Bulgaria. He wished the future Prime Minister and the new Bulgarian government a lot of success in the upcoming years.

He said: "The political family of the EPP respects the strong will of Bulgarians to see changes in their home country, as expressed by last Sunday parliamentary elections. We have always underlined that the decision of the EC to freeze funds from the pre-accession programmes of PHARE, ISPA and SAPARD is an evaluation for the work of the Socialist government, and not a reflection of the Bulgarian people.

We, together with our colleagues from GERB, have worked hard to secure the unblocking of the funds, so that it reaches the final beneficiary - the ordinary citizens and farmers of Bulgaria. As Members of the European Parliament from the biggest parliamentary group we call for the immediate release of the funds for SAPARD."
